The 2019 general elections: how technology can help’. What you missed at YAF session

The SMW Lagos is an annual event were tech and social media experts gather to facilitate sessions discussing trending issues as it affects these areas.  Due to the upcoming 2019 elections, Youth Alive Foundation took the opportunity to facilitate a panel session on the theme—‘The 2019 general elections: how technology can help’.

The event was scheduled to start about 12 :30 at the innovation stage with 4 guest speakers and a moderator which were: Barr. Yvonne Williams—Senior Prosecutor, ICPC; Mr. Luka Buba— Principal Admin Officer, INEC; Mr Michael Famoroti—Partner at Stears & Mr. Lateef Salam— Lagos State Coordinator, Vote not Fight & the moderator was Dr. Udy Okon—Executive Director; Youth Alive Foundation. 

All speakers were in attendance except Mr Luka Buka who came  towards the end of the event but was able to make few contributions. Some key take aways from the discussions were that the transformation that has occurred in the Nigeria society have been driven by data and we live in an age where every citizen is an election observer and can see and update data which were stated by Mr Michael Famoroti and Dr Udy Okon. 

Towards the end of the event the winners of the Selfie for Vote Buying Challenge were people were tasked with posting quotes advocating against vote buying on twitter, instagram and facebook. The winners were awarded their gift items which included umbrellas, headset, speakers and power banks. Dr Udy urged every participant to sign up on our madact portal to join the movement against corruption.
